I had previously read another book by George Matthew Cole, ("Colt O'Brien Sees the Light") and thoroughly enjoyed it, so thought I'd give "El Porto Summer" a try. When it appeared to be a teenage romance novel, I had my doubts. As a sixty-something man, I'm not much into romance novels. Wow, was I pleasantly surprised by this peek at the mind of young man! The book examines a wide range of emotions and circumstances that brought me back to my own youth or made me think about how different life situations impact people of all ages. Self-esteem, doubt, fear, divorce, parent relationships, friendships, bullying all are addressed with thoughtful insight. I also enjoyed the backdrop of the California surfing scene. All in all, a fun, but thought provoking read.Product details

Since I spent many summers by the beach, I instantly took to this book. Loved the character development, summer friendships that were made, and of course, the romance!! A must read for any teenager!
El Porto Summer takes you inside the exciting life of a teenage surfer, Brett Sloan. The story grabs you from the beginning and takes you on a roller coaster ride of romance and adventure throughout the story. The author gives you a unique perspective into the life of a California surfer and covers some of the technical aspects of the sport. The story has a climatic conclusion that will surprise and reward the reader. The story has something for everyone and I would highly recommend this book! I look forward to more exciting stories from George Matthew Cole.
