I really enjoyed following the characters through the three years around 1800. I gained a real sense of how the French were received from many Arab points of view.
"It's not what you think" sums it up. Fascinating. Thank you Said.
I have totally enjoyed immersing myself in the reading of this novel. Not only did I get attached to all the characters in the story, but I learned a lot of historical facts without pain (I must admit I hated history in school). What I have loved the most was feeling the atmosphere in Egypt, letting the Egyptian way of thinking come in and finally starting to understand where the resiliance of the Egyptian people comes from. Absolutely fascinating to me. Monsieur Magdi, for when is the sequel?... Yours truly L.-N. Dupuy
French Kisses on the Nile is an extremely well written historical novel. This genre has universal appeals as it presents a fascinating background of Egyptian life during the occupation of Napoleon. The reader feels that he is there, living through the experiences of daily life, inhaling the fragrance of the Nile night and gaining an deep understanding of the resilient Egyptian character. The author takes the reader through a myriad of events, sometime caring, sometimes brutally cruel but always keeping one’s curiosity captive to the very last page. A “kudos” to Said Magdi.....Very well done.

French Kisses on the Nile takes you back in time and reminds you that in our thirst, our greed for power and wealth, humans are capable of unspeakable crimes against each other. And, against that backdrop, the power of love/friendship is a light that can't be extinguished. Indeed it burns despite differences in race, religion, class, and age. So, while the setting is Egypt over 200 hundred years ago, it is also relevant for today's world. I'm also reminded of the importance of resilience to our spirits. The author has done a wonderful job in writing a book that makes you want to keep reading it to the end, and then want more.
A magical adventure that carpets the reader into enchanted lands! Author Said Magdi has create nothing less then a veritable Time Machine, which transports the reader from Egypt to France and many points in between. The characters and narrative are so wonderful and original that one comes away from this superb book feeling as if they have truly been on a magical expedition!
